Media Center Hours

Hours: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Students may visit the media center with permission from their teacher or teachers can sign up to bring the whole class.

Check Out Policies

General Policies

  • Students may check out two books in grades 2nd-5th.

  • Students in K and 1st can check out one book.

  • All books are due two weeks after checkout.

  • Students are welcome to return their books before the due date to get new materials.

  • Students can also renew their books for an additional two weeks if they need more time to read.

  • Overdue/lost/damaged book notices are sent to parents and teachers several times throughout the year.

  • A student with an overdue/lost book(s) is unable to check out new materials until the book is returned or fines are paid.

Fines for lost or damaged materials

Students are asked to pay a fair replacement cost for lost or damaged books.

  • $15 for hardback books

  • $5 for paperbacks

There are no fines for overdue books, however, there is a fee for lost or damaged books.

1. Pay the fine by check (made payable to Simpson ES) or the book will be marked "lost" by the media staff so you can pay the fine on My Payments Plus.

2. Find the same book online and purchase a new hardcover book. Library binding is preferred.

* If the book is found within 6 weeks of the fine being paid, the fine will be refunded.

Book Care

Be responsible with library materials so other students will be able to enjoy the books after you.

  • Keep your book in a safe place. Do not leave books outside.

  • Do not eat or drink while reading a library book. Liquids and sticky foods will ruin a book.

  • Do not write or draw in a library book.

  • If you have a water bottle in your book bag, we recommend keeping it away from your library books.

  • Be careful not to tear or rip the pages in the book.

  • If a book is lost or damaged, please let the media center staff know asap.

Volunteers

  • We need volunteers who can shelve books, help students check books out, work on projects, and much more. Please check the PTA website to sign up as a volunteer.
