Counselors
The counselors work with students individually, in small groups and in whole class lessons/meetings. Counselors also support teachers and parents in supporting their student/child. Students can meet with a counselor due to self-referral, staff referral or parent referral.

I am a native of Gwinnett County and graduated from Duluth High School. I received a Bachelor's degree in Child and Family Development from the University of Georgia and a Master's and Specialist's degree from Florida State University. I am excited to embark on my 17th year at Simpson Elementary. I have two boys in 7th and 8th grade that are products of our wonderful school!

Georgia became my home 3 years ago when I moved from Indiana, where I grew up and received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Purdue University. I just graduated with my Master's degree from Georgia State University and am thrilled to start my first year at Simpson Elementary part-time. When I am not at school, I love playing video games and board games or spending time with my husband and our three purrfect cats!

Core Curriculum
All students in K-5receive core counseling lessons on personal safety (Think First & Stay Safe) and careers (Career Clusters).
Think First & Stay Safe
The Think First & Stay Safe™ program is a research-based program that teaches specific personal safety education by way of interactive classroom lessons, classroom posters, role playing and corresponding activities. Think First & Stay Safe™ enables students to take an active and necessary role in protecting themselves from abuse and exploitation. You can learn more about the detailed lesson plans and research behind this program at www.childluresprevention.com. Please be aware that more information is provided on the website than is actually used in Gwinnett County. Parents have the opportunity to preview the materials used in the Child Lures lessons during the Early Release Days in October. Your child will bring home a letter after they receive the lesson that lets you know when the lesson was taught. The letter will also give you some more information and talking points.
Career Clusters
In 1st through 5th grade, students are exposed to the 17 career clusters. Career Clusters represent a grouping of occupations according to common knowledge and skills for the purpose of organizing educational programs and curricula, and providing career and academic development for all students.
